Britney Spears’ ‘Toxic’ hits a billion streams on Spotify just days after the release of her new collaboration with will.i.am ‘Mind Your Business’ – and the star’s social media is going dark.
Who’s the latest pop star to join the Spotify Billions Club? It’s Britney, bitch. Britney Spears’ 2003 fan-favorite hit “Toxic” became the first song from her popular catalog to reach 1 billion streams on Spotify.
Britney’s extensive hit catalog has sparked renewed interest after her latest single. The milestone comes just days after the release of her latest collaboration with will.i.am, Mind Your Business.
Spears’ third collaboration with the Black-Eyed Peas rapper and producer, “Mind Your Business,” ended with just a day’s notice — more than a decade after the duo first collaborated on the track “Scream & Shout” in 2012. The new song also uses the now iconic line from Will’s “Scream & Shout”: “You are now rockin’ with will.i.am and Britney, b*tch.”
Mind Your Business is also Spears’ first new music since last year’s successful collaboration with Elton John on Hold Me Closer. Her last release before that was the 2016 album Fame.
Spears has yet to announce a new album to accompany the single, but the superstar recently confirmed the release of her upcoming memoir. the woman in medue October 24.
Shortly after the release of Mind Your Business, Britney deleted her Instagram account over the weekend, although this isn’t the first time her social media presence has been deleted without warning. In the past she has reactivated her accounts within days or weeks.
Still, given the context of the new song, it’s not surprising that her account suddenly no longer exists. The catchy, minimal-beat club track, with its spoken chorus, serves as a not-so-subtle cue to those who seemingly can’t help but dig into Spears’ personal life: “Mind your business, b*tch.”
