Threads has managed to add more than 100 million users in just one week – while users are migrating from Twitter.
The app is currently available in most countries except Europe, where privacy regulations are keeping it in check for now. Threads had 10 million users within the first seven hours of launch and 30 million the next morning. That number jumped to 70 million on Friday, and the app has 100 million users over the weekend. That’s currently less than a third of the estimated 350 million Twitter users.
Twitter users have expressed dismay at the way Elon Musk has handled the social media site since he took over. His style of making changes quickly and without notice has made it difficult to encourage usage of the platform. For example, on the weekend of July 4th, the platform was offline for everyone except Twitter users. So how does the new competition fare with Twitter? Here’s what you need to know as a promoter of music, bands or any other live promotion you want to do online.

Threads isn’t the only Twitter rival in town, either. Both Mastodon and Bluesky are pitching themselves as potential spots for Twitter refugees tired of the platform. Bluesky is currently an invitation-only service, which means its reach is rather limited. Meanwhile mastodons federated instances Present a learning curve that the average person is not willing to endure. Threads is currently the most popular alternative for people looking for a Twitter alternative.
However, if you decide Threads isn’t for you and want to delete the account, keep in mind that Threads is tied to your Instagram identity. That may be one of the reasons why it was so easy for Zuckerberg to get a large number of signups in a short period of time – after all, Threads is an extension of Instagram.
