Katy Perry’s label Unsub Records releases the latest single from ‘American Idol’ finalist Michael J. Woodard.
Singer-songwriter Michael J Woodard has released his latest single and accompanying video, “FACE,” from Katy Perry’s Unsub Records label. The song about self-discovery and the courage to express your deepest feelings, from indie label Unsub Records, founded by Katy Perry, a supporter of Woodard since he was a finalist american idol“FACE” is now available for download and streaming.
“’FACE’ is a record that is very special to me. It’s about the struggle of not being able to put into words how you feel for someone you love, even though the emotion is clearly on the face,” says Woodard. “I wanted to capture the feeling of liking someone and just couldn’t hide it. The lyrics capture the confusing nature of having such strong feelings for someone but only being able to express them through facial expressions. I hope you like it and that it conveys all the feelings to you.”
Woodard grew up in Philadelphia and sang at church and at the elementary performing arts school he attended. By the time he was 13, he was singing at high-profile events such as the US Open and performing for then-President Barack Obama on a visit to Philadelphia. Woodard developed his vocal skills and songwriting acumen by working in the home studio he set up and posting the results online. After high school, Woodard went to Hollywood to study at the Musicians Institute.
He soon found himself in the top 5 american idolsigned to Unsub Records and voices the title character in the Netflix musical animated film and television series Arlo the alligator boy.
“When I go into the studio, I always feel like the possibilities are endless,” says Woodard. “I could spend all day making up harmonies and melodies without ever burning out because it’s all so magical to me.”
The official video for Woodard’s new single “FACE” was directed by Janush Libicki, Woodard’s main visual collaborator, who also directed the video for his current single “Trouble”.
