In a recent interview, Kelly Clarkson revealed that Scooter Braun was immediately “offended” by her suggestion that Taylor Swift re-record her masterpieces.

Kelly Clarkson recently announced this in an interview interview with Andy Cohen for a SiriusXM Town Hall special that Scooter Braun reacted negatively to her publicly proposing to Taylor Swift to re-record her masters amid Swift’s struggle with Braun and her former record label Big Machine Records in 2019.

When it was revealed in 2019 that Braun had acquired the rights to Swift’s masters for her first six albums with the acquisition of Big Machine, Clarkson tweeted at Swift, “Just a thought, you should re-record every song you have.” I don’t own the masters exactly as you made them, but am adding brand new graphics and some kind of incentive to keep fans from buying the old versions.”

“I think Scooter was upset because we met and I think he reached out to my manager at the time. I was like, ‘There was nothing against him,'” Clarkson tells Cohen. “When (Swift) came out and said that and I heard about it, I was like, ‘Whatever.’ Record them again. Your fans will support you.’ Uh, they have. It has just about every top record on the charts right now.”

Clarkson clarified that Braun never said anything to her directly.

“He called my manager at the time, I understand, and I don’t know what happened or what was said, but I think he thought I was attacking him,” she says. “I thought, ‘Honestly, I didn’t even know who owned (the rights).’ I didn’t even know all the information.”

“I knew she cared, so I thought, ‘Why don’t you just re-record her?’ Your fans will support you.’ She’s a genius in every sense of the word,” Clarkson continues. “Not only did she re-record it, she planned this Eras tour – this woman is just brilliant.”

Clarkson also says that she doesn’t necessarily believe that Clarkson’s suggestion gave Swift the idea to re-record her music.

“I think she’s brilliant. She would have figured that out herself, and she might have had that before I even tweeted it.”

Swift has re-recorded and released new Taylor versions of her albums Red And Fearlesswith preparations to release the newly recorded version of Speak Now on July 7th. She has also said she plans to do the same for her albums 1989, reputation, And Taylor Swiftto possess the masters of all their works.
