NewJeans has broken a Guinness World Record and is the fastest kpop act to reach 1 billion streams on Spotify.

Guinness World Records confirmed broke the record on March 8, 2023. The group, consisting of Minji, Hanni, Danielle, Haerin and Hyein, reached a billion streams on Spotify in 219 days – faster than any other kpop act. These include male solo performances, female solo performances, or group performances. The kpop act only had six songs available on the platform to equal the record.

These include the four-track debut EP NewJeans, which was released on August 1, 2022, as well as the singles “Ditto” and “OMG”.

NewJeans broke BLACKPINK’s Lisa’s Kpop all-comer record with 411 days as of October 26, 2022. The solo artist record was broken by BTS’ Jung Kook with 409 days on March 27, 2023. But NewJeans has managed to stay ahead thanks to the huge success of its relatively small song catalogue.

“Ditto” (313.2 million streams) and “OMG” (312.4 million) went head to head on May 4, 2012 for the award as the group’s most-streamed song on Spotify. The group just released their latest single. Zero” (18.07M) will start streaming on May 4, 2023, which will no doubt contribute to her impressive streaming debut.

NewJeans is performing at Lollapalooza this year, following J-Hope’s solo performance at the festival last year. NewJeans aims to release new music for fans this summer as the group just finished recording a new album that is due out soon.

“I wanted to break the stereotype that only certain styles of music could succeed in the so-called mainstream industry,” said Min Hee Jin, CEO of NewJeans label ADOR told billboard in April 2023. “NewJeans will continue to strive to present something new and unique to exceed the expectations of its fans. NewJeans membership is growing and growing and we can’t wait to surprise the world again.”
