Sony Music Masterworks’ Terrapin Station has acquired a majority stake in live event producer Black Ink Presents.
Terrapin Station Entertainment, a Sony Music Masterworks company specializing in family-friendly and brand-centric live events and management announced a majority stake in Los Angeles-based live event production service provider Black Ink Presents.
Black Ink Presents, a leading provider of musical performance solutions, provides creative direction, design and production management for concerts, tours and other unique and inclusive events throughout the United States. The company produces live-to-film shows in which a full orchestra performs a film score live, synchronized with a film screening or other media.
Under the new agreement, Black Ink Presents CEO John Kinsner, Alek Deva, CFO, and Black Ink Presents COO Mike Kasper will continue to oversee the day-to-day operations of the company while working closely with Jonathan Shank, Terrapin Station founder and CEO Entertainment, are collaborating to develop and expand new live-to-film productions and a range of unique live experiences for IP-based entertainment, including concerts, immersive exhibitions and cruise entertainment.

Her skills, combined with Terrapin’s growing IP roster, will give us a solid foundation and continue to expand our presence in non-traditional entertainment.”

The partnership expands on a longstanding collaboration between Shank and Black Ink Presents, including Deal or No Deal Live And The Bob Marley One Love Experience. Recent projects supported by Black Ink Presents include Danny Elfman’s appearances at the Coachella and Hollywood Bowl in 2022, Get Happy: A Celebration of Judy Garland’s 100th Birthday with live singers, a big band orchestra and media from The Judy Garland Showand Disney’s charm in concerta large-scale live-to-film event.
Previous live-to-film productions include event screenings of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Versethe Aretha Franklin biopic Respectthe Disney animated films Beauty and the Beast And The little mermaidthe musical inspired by Elton John rocket Man, Exit by director Jordan Peele, Chicago, The Batman, The bad death, The GooniesAnd ghostbusters.
