Spotify for Artists is deleting historical song data on July 1 to standardize access to historical data across its analytics platform. So you can download your data beforehand.

In an effort to standardize access to historical data across the enterprise Spotify for artists analytics platform — and to simultaneously reduce data and storage costs — the company is making changes including deleting historical data older than two years, plus the current year. This change will go into effect on July 1st, so artists wishing to keep their historical data from 2020 and earlier will need to save their data quickly.

Historical artist data is often used to research past titles and trends, and to make informed decisions when planning how to market a new release. Spotify advises that your historical data from December 31, 2020 and earlier is now available for download at Spotify for Artists through June 30, 2023.

Beginning July 1, Spotify for Artists will provide data on song pages for the last two years and the current year. However, Spotify does point out that artists will still be able to see the total number of streams of their songs.

While the primary cause of the change is likely related to cost cutting, Spotify says the change will allow Spotify to bring new analytics capabilities to artists. These include:

  • Custom date range filters on multiple pages
  • New engagement statuses on your songs page
  • New fan segmentation of your active audience
  • More historical data on your audience engagement page
  • A new roster management view

Spotify says it will also remove some “low usage” analytics features, including “Similar Artists” and “Compare to Other Artists” analytics.

Your historical data from December 31, 2020 and earlier can only be downloaded from Spotify for Artists until June 30, 2023.

To download a CSV file of your data, look for a down arrow icon on the song pages. This feature only works on the web and not through the Spotify for Artists mobile app.
