The Weeknd announces plans to retire “The Weeknd” as his performance name and admits he wants to “kill off” his musical personality.
Abel Tesfaye, better known by his stage personality The Weeknd, admitted in a recent interview W Magazine that he might retire his stage name after his next project. The interview where he sat down with him idol Co-star Lily-Rose Depp talks about her upcoming HBO series, which airs June 4th.
“I’m on a cathartic path right now,” Tesfaye said. “I’m getting to a point and a time where I’m preparing to close the Weeknd chapter. I’ll still make music, maybe as Abel, maybe as The Weeknd. But I still want to kill The Weeknd. And I will. Ultimately. I’m definitely trying to shed that skin and be reborn.”
“The album I’m working on right now is probably my last hooray as The Weeknd,” he added. “It’s something I have to do. As The Weeknd, I’ve said all I can say.”
The Canadian singer confirmed shortly after the release of his latest album: Dawn FMIn January 2022, fans witnessed the birth of a new trilogy that began with After hours in 2020. Meanwhile, The Weeknd is releasing new music in support of its new HBO series. He recently released the single “Double Fantasy” with Future and announced during a surprise Coachella set that more music would be made for a side project called ” The Idol Vol 1
