Did you know that all of your Spotify followers can see what you’re listening to? If you play a song on Spotify without starting a private session, your followers will see what you’re listening to on the desktop app. So what is a private session on Spotify and how do you start one?
A private session is Spotify’s version of your browser’s incognito mode, allowing you to make your Spotify listening activities private. Normally, everything you listen to on Spotify can be seen by your followers on the desktop app. How do you keep your listening activities confidential?
What is a private session on Spotify?
It’s important to note that while a private session prevents your friends and followers from seeing your listening activity, music listened to during a private session is also not registered in Spotify’s algorithms. Therefore, music listened to with the option enabled will not be used when Spotify personalizes playlists based on your listening activity.
How to privately listen to Spotify: Android and iOS
In your Spotify mobile app settings, there are options to hide your listening activity and recently played artists from your friends and followers:
- open that Spotify mobile app.
- Tap the gear icon in the top right corner of the app to open it Ideas.
- Scroll down until you find this Social section where you can Switch The private session Function.
How to privately listen to Spotify: Desktop & Web Players
If you’re listening to Spotify on your computer, either via the web player or the desktop app, you can start a private session as follows:
- open that Spotify desktop app or internet player.
- press the down arrow next to you Spotify profile picture to open that drop down menu.
- Choose private session.
